لَوۡ كَانَ عَرَضٗا قَرِيبٗا وَسَفَرٗا قَاصِدٗا لَّٱتَّبَعُوكَ وَلَٰكِنۢ بَعُدَتۡ عَلَيۡهِمُ ٱلشُّقَّةُۚ وَسَيَحۡلِفُونَ بِٱللَّهِ لَوِ ٱسۡتَطَعۡنَا لَخَرَجۡنَا مَعَكُمۡ يُهۡلِكُونَ أَنفُسَهُمۡ وَٱللَّهُ يَعۡلَمُ إِنَّهُمۡ لَكَٰذِبُونَ
If it had been an easy win within reach and a short journey, those [hypocrites] would have followed you, but the distance seemed too far for them. They will swear by Allah[43], “If we had been able, we would have surely joined you,” destroying themselves [through false oaths], and Allah knows that they are liars. (Rowwad Translation)
Si hubiera habido algún bien terrenal fácil de conseguir o el viaje hubiera sido corto, (los hipócritas) te habrían seguido para combatir, mas la distancia les pareció larga. Te jurarán por Al-lah (cuando regreses de Tabuk): «Si hubiésemos podido, habríamos salido con vosotros». Mas causan su propia perdición (jurando en vano), pues Al-lah sabe que mienten. S’il se fût agi d’un butin à portée de main ou d’un voyage (à destination) proche, ils t’auraient certainement suivi. Mais le trajet leur parut bien long. Ils jureront par Allah : « Si nous avions pu, nous serions certainement sortis avec vous. » N’est-ce pas qu’ils se perdent eux-mêmes ! Allah Sait bien qu’ils ne sont que menteurs. यदि शीघ्र मिलने वाल सामान और मध्यम यात्रा होती, तो वे अवश्य आपके पीछे चल पड़ते, लेकिन फ़ासला उनपर दूर पड़ गया। और जल्द ही वे अल्लाह की क़समें खाएँगे कि अगर हमारे पास ताकत होती, तो हम तुम्हारे साथ अवश्य निकलते। वे अपने आपको नष्ट कर रहे हैं और अल्लाह जानता है कि वे निश्चित रूप से झूठे हैं। (Al-Umary)
假若那是临近的浮利和中程的旅行，他们必定追随你，但那距离对他们太遥远了。他们将以安拉发誓说：“假若我们能出征，我们必定与你们一道出征。”他们自陷于灭亡。安拉知道，他们确是说谎的。 (Makin)
